Nitrates can vary, ideally you want less than 20 ppm but heavy stocking or missing a water change can send the levels up.
Some fish are more tolerant of nitrates than others.
In some areas at times the tapwater may have up to 20 ppm of nitrate Sad
Anything over 50ppm will have adverse affects on any fish in the long term.

This is fab advice thanks, have been trawlling internet to gain as much info as i could, and since finding this site havent looked anywhere else!
